Joseph Audet dit Lapointe

The name Lapointe is a dit name. It could have been a nickname for a soldier (the point of a lance) or for a family who lived on a point of land.

New France was a French colony in North America. It was ceded to Great Britain in 1763.

Joseph Audet dit Lapointe was probably born in 1678 on Île-d'Orléans. His parents were Nicolas Audet dit Lapointe and Madeleine Després. Madeleine was a fille du roi.

He married Jeanne Pouliot on November 5, 1703, at Saint-Laurent..

Jeanne was the daughter of Charles Pouliot and Françoise Meunier. Her brother, Jean, had married Joseph's sister, Madeleine, six years earlier.

Joseph and Jeanne's children included:

Marie-Josephte Audet dit Lapointe,
Marie-Jeanne Audet ditLapointe,
Joseph Antoine Audet dit Lapointe,
Jean-François Audet dit Lapointe,
Catherine Audet dite Lapointe, and
Gabriel Audet dit Lapointe.

Nicolas Audet was granted land on the southeast side of l'Île-d'Orléans At that time, it was in the parish of Sainte-Famille. In 1679, the parish of Ste-Famille was divided and their farm became part of the village of Saint-Jean.

The King's Daughters (filles du roi) were young women who immigrated to Canada between 1663 and 1673 and were sponsored by Louis XIV. The French goverment planned to increase Canada's population by promoting marriages and the birth of children.

6) Joseph was probably born in 1678 since he was reported to be four years old in the 1681 census. He married Jeanne Pouliot on November 5, 1703, at Saint-Laurent. The contract for this wedding had been notarized on October 25 by the senior Jacob. Jeanne was the daughter of Charles and Françoise Meunier. Her brother, Jean, had married Joseph's sister, Madeleine, six years earlier. Joseph and Jeanne had six children, four boys and two girls, all born at Saint-Jean.
